Ten strangers all end up at the same Motel after a storm prevents them from traveling out of the area. Shortly after getting acquainted with one another the ten travelers start to die off one by one. The survivors must start to unravel the mystery that has presented to them. Let me start off by saying this movie truly surprised me. I bought it a few weeks ago, and just popped it in tonight after getting home from school. I wasn't really expecting too much, but I am truly baffled at how well this movie was written, and the direction Mr. Mangold took with this spectacular film. The script is phenomenal, kudos Michael Cooney who wrote this brilliant story. The dialogue is very well written, and lays out the plot beautifully. Identity never felt boring, or sluggish, it kept a perfect pace through out the whole picture, and it painted it exquisitely. I was on the edge of my seat just about the whole time. Identity had me guessing the whole way through. The rain in the movie created an amazing environment. It was almost a character in it's own. It almost felt like and outside player that was keep these ten strangers stuck, and just caused problem after problem. The environment was just impeccably well done. The acting was flawless. The actors really made me feel the terror, and the over feel of terror that you're never safe, you're constantly having to keep all five senses on alert; because, anything can and will happen. All the actors did an amazing job, but the three actors that really stand out are John Cusak, Ray Liotta, and Amanda Peet. All really fed off each others energy, and pulled this movie off masterfully. My only real complaint is that they explained a bit too much of what was actually going on at the Motel. Personally, I think it wouldn't have hurt to leave the audience guessing, because the twist was just a total shock, and a complete mind fuck. I've noticed in movies such as Mulholland Dr. that David Lynch doesn't really explain too much. What he does, he gives you just enough pieces to put the puzzle together, but he doesn't come out and tell the audience. Once you finish the movie, you think about it for days, or you watch the movie a couple of times to try and figure everything out. Overall this movie is a must see. The cast is nothing short of all-star material, the story is brilliant, it's just an overall well written, and directed story. ***1/2//****
