8/10 I bet the people in charge of marketing had a hard time thinking of a description for this movie. It can't truly be given a plot or a good catchline (the little quote on movie posters, ie. "Evil never dies") without spoiling the movie. With that in mind. I will spoil the f*** out of this movie. . . . . . . .. . . . . .. . . . . . Simply put: The motel situation, which are led to believe is reality, is just a figment of a serial killers imagination. This killer has dissassociative identity disorder. One of his many identities is the killer, his other identities aren't (though they aren't all good either, none of his identies are purely good). Psychologists put the killer in a hypnosis state so that his identities could meet in the motel situation. The purpose being to eliminate all but one character. Hopefully, the killer will be eliminated meaning no need for capital punishment of the man. That is the actual plot. One would expect that to be a twist enough, but its not. There is another twist at the end that is pretty wicked. I'll spoil that at the end of the review. As the movie sets up, it seems like a weird serial killer movie. It then gets weirder and weirder, and various strange things happen. People die, and are found with room keys on their person. Later they dissapear. All of this would just seem like excess crap to make the movie more interesting. Thankfully, the movie took a turn for the better and reveals the multiple identity twist. The plot of this movie gets a 10/10, for originality, clever deception, and many great twists. The movie picked a variety of actors, and each protrayed their respective identity well. Ray Liotta plays a perfect shady cop for example. On one hand, he could be a good guy, but you could easily suspect him of being bad. Rebeca Demornay plays an old bitchy actress. There are numerous other roles that are small, but regardless, each actor plays there part well. Acting 10/10 The plausibility of the movie is questionable. I'm not refering to the motel hypnosis situation. I'm talking about the motel reality and how implausible it is. The killers mind would be based on the real world. In order for him to truly believe some of his identities are dead, it would have to seem real to him. Many of the deaths make no sense. Now, I'll spoil the end. . . . . . . .. .. . The killer is a child, maybe 8 years old. He is representative of the real life killer as a child. Apparently, we are to believe this little kid is a murder mastermind and can accurately predict people's reactions to his actions. ASide from that, we are to believe that he is physically capable of murdering various adults. I'm talking stabbings and fatal beatings with objects (bats, farm tools), and getting a car to explode. I like having the kid as the killer, but I found it a bit implausible. No big deal. 6/10. Overall, this movie gets 8/10. I understand this review may be confusing. You can only truly appreciate the movie and understand me when you see the movie. I reccommend a purchase. At the very least rent it. The ending: The boy is the killer, and killed most of the people. We get to see him do all the killings when the alleged surivor realizes he is the killer. The people he didn't kill were killed off in accordance to the physcologists plan. The "good" survivor is then killed off. Hence, the serial killer is now ALL serial killer, as opposed to a serial killer with a good side.
