Identity POSSIBLE SPOILERS THROUGHOUT I went in to this movie unfortunately knowing the twist ending, so on that point the film was slightly ruined for me, but it certainly didn't stop me from enjoying, and being engaged by this creepy thriller. James Mangold (Kate & Leopold, Girl Interrupted) has certainly changed his tune from his last directorial efforts, and he proves himself to be a wise choice for for a film of this genre - a thriller, which is essentially a horror movie. As well, writer Michael Cooney (Jack Frost 1 and 2) proves he just needs a good story to write out a decent script, as his previous efforts were laughable, whilst here, he's right on the money. Acting wise, the film doesn't disappoint with everyone pulling their weight, though the smaller characters aren't as well developed. John Cusack (Serendipity, High Fidelity) never disappoints and here was no different, and it was good to see this genre treat him well. He was a likeable, but of course suspicious character that came through on all accounts. Ray Liotta (Hannibal, Heartbreakers) is the shit! And, like Cusack, was on the money in his delivery. Amanda Peet (Changing Lanes, Igby Goes Down) has gone through the ups and downs in her career, but lately has been choosing better projects, and like in her aforementioned credits, she is engaging, and mighty impressive here, in a role that could've been much more of a throw away part. John Hawkes (I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, The Perfect Storm), Alfred Molina (Frida, Spider-Man II) and Clea DuVall (The Faculty, The Astronaut;s Wife) all did what they had to do, and they did it well, John C McGinley (Highway, Office Space) was welcome in a much more subdued role than what we usually expect from the actor, and I felt for his hard working, and loving father, and it was nice to see Miss Rebecca DeMornay (Backdraft, The Hand That Rocks The Cradle) back in action. She looked pretty fine, almost unrecognisable, in her role as a bitchy, failed actress (Not stretching it too far there though), and it would be nice if we see her more of her in the future. Another aspect of this creepy little film I enjoyed, was the use of its flashbacks, showing us how all our characters got to where they were, and the nasty incidents that happen to out victims was also welcome, as many of them you weren't sure just when they were gonna go, except for the first hotel victim, who did the wandering off alone thing...though I did enjoy how their body, or mosre correctly, their body part was displayed. The twist ending was well constructed, and that little rhyme is quite creepy when put in the situation, and I hate myself for spoiling it for myself. With so many horror movies, playing it safe, or treating its audiences like idiots, its nice when a breath of fresh air is injected into the genre. And seeing as how The Sixth Sense, Final Destination and Frailty all came to mind whilst watching it, it's nice to know, there are intelligent horror movies out there. 9/10
