| Quote: * An enjoyment of unraveling complex mysteries How is it complex? It's a girl that doesn't have a great life who falls to sleep and dreams of a better life for herself, taking things from reality and pouring them into her dream. Small insignificant details (See, he yells "Help!" and in the mug in reality it says "SoS". See, she wants to spit her coffee when he sees her girl kissing a guy but she cant, so in her dream, there's a guy who can't take coffee. So clever) do not make a complex plot. Minority Report, THAT's a complex plot. Take "Red Riding Hood", scamble the order, turn the film upside down and play it in reverse. It won't change it from being a very simple story. Quote: Just because you didn't get it or like it doesn't make it a bad movie. Not immediately but it is a flaw. But, add to that zero characterizations and it can make a bad movie. A coherent storyline is a big aspect of what makes a good movie. Mulholland Drive's script (other than the dialogue) could have been written by a three year old and it wouldn't suprise me. It has no depht, no emotion, no coherence, nothing. Oh, and I'm pretty sure I get the movie, I used to be a huge fan, but now I just find it pretentious, boring and lazy. Sure, Lynch can direct. Amazing visuals, creative camerawork and manages his actors like a champ, but there's nothing you can really feel when watching it. Unless you are just trying and trying to figure it out, think you have it figured out (like I did) and follow along after 10 watches. Great acting, great directing, no characterizations, no story you can follow (you just keep going "Wha?"), great music. It makes a flawed and overrated film. 7/10. |
