Topic: Mulholland Drive.....(1 1/2 out of 4)....Spoiler Free! Forum: JoBlo
Let me start off by saying I'm a big Lynchaholic. Some of his best work, Eraserhead, Blue Velvet, Dune, and The Elephant Man, being one of my fav. movies of all time, so I had some really high hopes for this moive (or any movie from him). This movie, witch we (down, way down, in Texas) didn't get in the theatre, and I grew with expectations for the flim to be released with a great extra heavy DVD, whitch sucks ass by the way (people who've know about the DVD know what I'm talking about, What the fuck is up with the ONE chapter?!?!?). I heard great things about it from some freinds up north. "A great movie!", "Not for the mainstream in mind but finanly a movie for the movie buffs!"....great I though, because I'm a bigger movie buff then them so I should LOVE this movie but needless to say, after the film was over I was left in a huge dissapointment. The story goes like so.....A woman awakens from an accident unable to remember the details of her life. A kind women in seek of becomeing an actress helpes her out, but can she be trusted? And can someone please tell me why I should give 2 shits about either of them, because I didn't. Lynch throws everything anyone could ever want in a mind fuck movie, plot twist on plot twist, things happening for no reason, things left unsaid, things discribed to us that didn't need to be discribed at all...but in the end, I didn't really give a damn. The charchters were thrown at me too fast and the flim just wanted me to follow them for 2 hours and 20 min....I don't fucking think so! Come on man, give me something to root for. This has to be the biggest killer of this movie (or what I should say "A bunch of scense that don't add to anything in the end made into feauter length so we can call it a movie") because of the actors thrown at us I didn't care for anything. That brings me to the acting. Naomi Watts plays Betty, the extreamly fake and almost too valley girl wanting to be an actress helps Laura Harring who plays Rita, the "victim" of the movie. Harring and Watts both act as if they were in a bad daytime soap (nice tits and all), and let me say it drove me up the fucking wall and didn't like one bit of it. The only good acting, from either of them, came during the last 30min of the movie....and for a 140min movie all I have to say is, "Wooptiee Shit!". The rest of the cast is nothing to be seen either. Justin Theroux plays a director, who is the only person I liked in the movie; along with him the only other noteable, just because he's cool, would be Robert Forster...to bad he was very wasted in this movie. Lynch's directing is damn near flawless. There are some cool tricks and great shots but other then them it's very straightfoward for Lynch. And with all this said and done leave us nothing more than a waste of +2 hours of our time. A movie with a plot so forgettable and uninvolving it really doesn't need to be seen and could be told to you in 3 short sentences. If you a Lynch fan then you should watch, but just for the sake of watching it and see why he was nominated for an Oscar...other than that this movie is one well desserving movie to set on the self and collect dust.
