Well, worst movie of all time or not, this one was a big dissapointment. Basically, it takes everything that was ever cool about the Friday the 13th series, and chucks it. What we have left is irritating charcters, lousy effects (the unmasking scene at the end), lots of buildup with very little payoff ("God, how much longer till that damn boat gets to NY?!!!"), and a oofy name. Lots of kills, but most of them pretty weak. They went light on the gore and light on the tits (the two things that define the 13th series), and went much heavier than usual on the cheesy dialouge and poor delivery.
Something else that always stuck in my craw about this movie was the setting. NY is one of the largest, most densely populated cities in the world, so why is it that the streets seem to be empty in almost every single scene? How is it that Jason can walk around with impunity, encountering only random stragglers here and there? Very odd.
Bottom line: This one just plain blew. 3/10. |
