The Matrix - 9/10. With all the buzz surrounding "The Matrix: Revisited" and the much anticipated sequal, "The Matrix: Reloaded", I find it only appropriate to go back and give points where points are due, which is obviously something that I should have done a long time ago, since this movie is around 3 years old. Put criticism aside, it has been widely and unfairly due to the fact that this *was* a mass-market movie, which makes a big deal out of its single still-frame action sequence (we all know which one I'm referring to), and it's also been blasted for having a rediculous concept to it and too much computer hooplah. But I don't buy the story for a minute, which I'm hoping everyone has the brains to realize that this is just science fiction and that it's not meant to be taken seriously (or it would be science fact, so ha!).. And this it provides entertainment at its finest. I want to first comment on the opening scene. Immediately I was drawn to the intensity of the situation before having a clue what was going on. The chick kicks a lot of butt, then runs like hell at the first caution of an 'agent'.. why? what's going on here? When I find myself asking plenty of questions before even 10 minutes have past, that's a good sign that this movie will be extraordinary. The thought of being able to pop in a disk which feeds information to the brain in seconds it just amazing! Imagine how cool it would be to learn secrets of the universe, or how to play pool, or how to become a master horseback rider just my feeding yourself a computer disk? Hehe.. interesting.. and just all out damn cool. I remember Keanu Reeves getting done with the first disk and going "I know Kung Fu!!" followed by "more!".. hehe. Rediculous as the story may be, it's well-developed and Morpheus does the best job possible to train rookie Neo into an agent-fighting machine. I especially enjoyed watching them fight, and when Morpheus goes "is that really air your breathing?" as he looks around silently mocking the thought.. fantastic, just fantastic. The aliens were realistic, the alien world was as grim as the ruins of Pompeii, and I smiled briefly at each quick flash of computer graphics rolled from scene to scene. What I didn't really get (or find good enough to let this movie pass with a 10/10) were the details that weren't explained, such as Neo having a 'gift', what kind of gift was that exactly? Why was he able to defeat agents when noone else could? And the one dude that felt like unplugging everyone for money.. that was really cheezy considering that the concept is that money in this world doesn't even exist. And a little bit of the action is too James Bond. But other than that, not much to complain about. The producers and director really bring this alien world to life with stunning visuals and moments that will definately be remembered by everyone who watched this Sci-Fi landmark. I am looking forward to seeing the sequal. WHEN IS THE RELEASE DATE??
