I was actually looking forward to this movie a lot, I love blondes, surfing, the ocean and blondes. I also felt that with the director of Crazy/Beautiful at the helm, the teen drama would've felt real but I have to agree with JoBlo on this one, I was also let down. The surfing scenes are rad, that camera is all over the place and you get to see surf on film from a whole new perspective. The secenery rocks, Bosworth is a hottie and a good actress (wish they gave her more to work with) and that one POD song livened things up (where was "So Alive" though? This movie needed it). But the drama is so badly handled, the romance so insipid, the side characters so bland (Michelle Rodrigez is pissed off...AGAIN!), the humor so pathetic (what was that condom thing all about...just wipe it off! Or what about those fat guys surfing...that was funny?) that I kept groaning at the movie. Maybe I expected too much (then again JoBlo wasn't expecting shite) but I left the theatre bummed. I'd still own it on DVD for the waves and Bosworth but if you're looking for a REAL movie, with REAL characters and REAL drama...look elswhere. This flick has the equal depth of a postcard. I actually don't mind cliches in film but at least deliver them with heart, here they're just tossed our way coldly, like we're suppose to feel something cause they're there. This could've been a great movie, a Rocky for surf girls, but it winds up being just another "Summer Catch" romance. They should've concentrated more on the surf, Bosoworth's training (she hardly trains for the contest), her friendships and her surmounting her fears. The movie felt like it was supposed to be about all that but somewhere along the way it dropped it all to become a token love story. My crush on Blue Crush is over, we broke up after the movie, I guess its back to "Point Break" and "In God's Hands" I go! (sings) "I, I feel so alive, for the very first time, I can't deny it, I feel so alive!" |
