| When I first saw the movie, I was with my then-boyfriend, my best friend, and her then-boyfriend. I had been eagerly anticipating the flick, and I thought it would be a good date movie. When we walked out, we looked at each other and I knew what was running through our heads: "What the fuck did we just watch?" We thought it was stupid, overdone, etc. etc. Then, just this past weekend, my aunt picked it up to rent, so I sat and watched it again. Moulin Rouge is definitely a movie one should watch more than once if one didn't like it the first time. It's dramatic, beautiful, and of course (at times) silly. I think this works because those who didn't like it the first time didn't know what to expect, but seeing it a second time knowing what to expect is a definite advantage.
