I mean don't get me wrong, it has it's sweet moments but it also has an edge to it. It's darker than most romance movies. It also has two of the best performances of the year (in my opinion). The plot is a good one and it keeps you interested until the very end. Ben Affleck stars as Buddy, an ad agent who's stuck in an airport during the holiday rush with Mimi (Natasha Henstridge), a beautiful blonde executive, and Greg, a play writer who's trying to get home to his wife Abby (Gwyneth Paltrow), and his two sons. Buddy decides to give Greg his ticket so he can fly home that same night and then Buddy can spend the night with Mimi. But when the plane that Gregs on crashes with no survivors, Buddy feels responsible and goes into a state of shock. After a year goes by Buddy decides to go and check up on Abby, Gregs widow, and her two sons. What Buddy didn't expect was to fall in love.
I thought this movie was great, one of the best movies of the year. The only problem I had with it is Buddy's character, he was kind of a jerk. But I guess it isn't necessarily a problem, since in most movies they make the characters super nice and we are forced to like them. It's different with Buddy, he has to grow on us. It's a lot more realistic, these characters have problems and flaws unlike in most movies, where they are too perfect. Ben Affleck and Gwyneth Paltrow were perfect in this movie, the chemistry was incredible and the acting was great. The movie is dark and filled with sadness, not the happy/romantic movie the previews showed us. This is the best grown up romance movie since Jerry Maguire, and it will always have a special place in my heart. I hope to see more like it. I really can't think of anything I didn't like about it. I highly recommend it... Grade: 10/10 |
