It was set in the 30's people were dumber back then. You are just looking for something to bitch about. I suppose Joaquin was too young to play Johnny Cash too. Enjoy the movie. Quit looking for holes. In my opinion PJ set out to do what he wanted. To entertain me for 3 hours and expose me to story that at 28 I have missed out on so far.
