By themselves, the four TNG films are entertaining, however(and this is something I feared when TNG went off the air in 1994) they seem anticlimatic when compared to the series itself. Generations, for instance, while it had the always great Malcolm McDowell and the eye-popping destruction of the Enterprise, had moments that just didn't gel with what had occurred in the series. For example, while Data dumping Crusher in the water made me laugh, the fact that this is what makes Data use the emotion chip seemed to be something that should've occurred in the series's early days. Speaking of Crusher, I was always annoyed that she wasn't Picard's fantasy wife when he was in the Nexus. There was however, some great drama as Picard ponders the loss of his brother and nephew. While TNG itself will always endure, the four films it spawned simply didn't cut it overall. |
