Nevermind that Equilibrium was a pretty good movie and thus didn't need to be remade. But even if it wasn't a good movie, it would still have been better than disasterous turkey of a movie. Ultraviolet is the movie and it's truly a wretched, misbegotten, hideously awful piece of garbage. It also plays out ALMOST EXACTLY like Equilibrium. Hell, both movies even cast William Fichtner as a leader of a rebellion group. Both movies have heroes who are seemingly invincible. And both movies have a climax that play out in nearly THE EXACT SAME WAY! The difference? Equilibrium was pretty exciting and entertaining. This movie is so bad and everything Equilibrium did right, this movie does wrong. Christian Bale was compelling as the movie's hero. Milla Jovovich, on the otherhand, is utterly and completely devoid of any charisma and delivers an extremely wooden, flat and lifeless performance. The action sequences in Equilibrium were slick and cool and exciting. But in Ultraviolet they are completely devoid of any excitement and look like a ho hum video game. And not a particularly good video game either. I could go on but I honestly have no interest in to. There is a seed of a potentially good idea barried in somewhere in all that shit, but other than that this movie is so bad in so many ways that it's pretty astonishing. I wish I could say that this is the worst movie of 2006, but then I'd be forgetting about Nacho Libre, which I would like to but unfortunately the movie is too awful to forget. Even so, it's one of the worst movies I have ever seen in my life. It REALLY is THAT bad. Ugh! 1/10 |
