He's so good that he makes the rest of the force look bad, so they send him to a small town where everything is not as it seems, and he starts to notice that there are lots dead bodies from accidents and almost no crime reports at all! The suspicious cop is determined to get to the bottom of this and starts to look closer at all the town folks and their ties to the dead people. However, the only one interested in hearing his suspicions is his dumb sidekick Danny Butterman (Nick Frost). That however doesn't stop him from questioning everybody and their motives. Soon he discovers that he might have bitten off more than he can chew in this funny spoof of the action movie genre. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are widely known for their zombie spoof Shaun of the Dead that was released back in 2004. Here the movie follows pretty much the same path, but the difference is that this movie doesn't suffer any downtime, and let's you in on the fun at the start of the movie. Which was key for me because SOTD's slow start sort of ruined that film for me. Here the humor is often subtle, but other times it's obvious. Which I actually consider to be a very good thing. However, the best thing about Simon, Nick, and director Edger Wright is that they're able to spoof the genre, but at the same time they show you that they do love it very much. Which is something spoof movies often fail to do these days. Honestly, even if you don't find this movie funny, it has other things to offer such as good action, and surprising gore considering it is supposed to be an action movie spoof. I really enjoyed this more than the guys first effort. 8/10 |
