I would personally stay away from actuall book cases...they tend to take up more room than need be. I have a few dvd shelving systems and they work, but the shelves tend to sag...and they are pretty expensive for what you get. They do look nice for a while. For the majority of my collection I used shelves from home depot...I think they are 8" wide by what ever length you need...these are a good and cheap way to go...the problems with what I have is I chose the shelves that have metal rods that go behing the shelf, then you stick the shelf supports into those....it can make it a pain when its time to reorganize and you'll have these spots were certain movise will stick out farther than others. Honestly what I would like to do is just go buy some lumber and make my own custom shelves but I don't have the time or the skill to make something like that I would be happy with. If you go with shelving from home depot don't forget to get bookends (movie themed preferably)
