HD/DvD thread Forum: JoBlo | | Comcast is currently testing a new network that will download a HD movie in 4 minutes. Yes, 4 minutes. Broadband is becoming a must have need for more and more Americans. I know for college I need a high speed connection or risk failing classes. We are required to download big files for different classes. I honestly don't know anyone that buys cds anymore. Everyone I know uses their mp3 players to play music and they have the adapters for their cars. I barely know of anyone that pays for music, but that is another story. The new Apple laptop doesn't have a dvd player, you can buy an add-on, because Steve Jobs feels you won't need them because everything will be downloadable. Apple has proven that they are the way of the future with the Ipod and the Iphone. Microsoft is even working on there own download service. That is why they didn't do anything about the HD-DVD format dying. It has been proven that more and more people don't even watch extras on dvds anymore. It was a fad, and people watch the movie and that is it. I find that I watch a movie only once and that is it. I am sure that is how it goes for the average American. I keep hearing from dvd collectors how they love the special editions, but when it comes down to it. Studios can make more money by putting their movies onto a secure website, and letting some other company take care of the rest. There is no need to have another company put together the dvd, considering it is becoming a waste. Also, you can hook up your computers to your tv. This means that you can just double click what you want to watch and it shows up. There is no need to go over to your dvd shelf, grab a movie, take it out of the case, and put it in the player. You could get an external hard drive and put all your movies on that. You could take it to a friend's house, and watch your movies there. It is like a booklet of movies, but without the hassle of worrying if your dvds will get scratched. Even if your hard drive were to break, you can recover the information. The only problem is that you lose jobs because what is the point to go to a rental store? Or go to the dvd section of say Best Buy? The fact is that to move forward, we need to sacrifice things. |
