Michael Haneke is a very thoughtful director who has focused on the cultural love/hate relationship with violence in a number of films. But Funny Games was definitely the most solid study of this scary line we walk. If anything, ilovemovies, I'd say Funny Games is voicing the same exact concerns about the viewer that you're voicing about it. This is most definitely not a mindless slasher, let alone a shitty torture porn TCM ripoff. But if the trailers are giving you that impression, then either the trailers are wrong, or Haneke's royally screwed up his own remake..
