| Posted by: corran horn at January 16, 2008, 7:29 pm | | Topic: 2008 Most Anticipated Forum: JoBlo | | Depending on how their production schedules go, we could see these three come out by year's end: The Road: John Hillcoat's (The Proposition) adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's post-apocalyptic novel, starring Viggo Mortensen and Charlize Theron. This has the potential to be truly great, but I wonder who they could find to play Mortensen's son. Milk: Directed by Gus Van Sant, this biopic chronicles the rise and assassination of gay San Francisco politician Harvey Milk (Sean Penn). Emile Hirsch is set to play Milk protege Cleve Jones and Josh Brolin will play Dan White, a former SF councilman and assassin of both Milk and SF Mayor George Moscone (Victor Garber). The road to finally making a film about one of America's most pivotal, but lesser-known, figures has been at least 20 years in the making, and I'm elated that we'll finally get to see it. The Soloist: Directed by Joe Wright and written by Susannah Grant (Erin Brockavich), this film covers the relationship between a journalist (Robert Downey Jr) and the homeless, schizophrenic musician he discovers (Jamie Foxx). While I'm not too keen on Foxx, the rest of the talent ensures my ticket purchase. Perhaps this could be RDJ's next shot at an Oscar nom, following on the heels of IRON MAN (much like Harrison Ford with CROSSING OVER). All in all, 2008 looks pretty darn good, both summer-wise and fall-wise. |
