Well, first of all I don't think it's underappreciated as it proved very popular among audiences and critics alike. That said, it's a good film but certainly nothing phenomenal. Sure, the period setting, acting, technical aspects (cinematography, etc) and directing were top-notch, and I personally felt that the whole sci-fi element was brilliantly executed; the film is also a fascinating study of obsession. That said, the actual plot including the twists at the end felt not only obvious but unfortunately redundant. Good, but not great. 7.5/10.
