| I was way off once again , what the heck happened , Blades of Glory , come on now . Oh well , i'm getting worse at this predicting thing . Yeah , it's sickening that Ferrel has another hit , the guy is annoying as hell , has been since his gig on Sat nite live . That's not to say that people like everything he's in cause that Stranger movie bombed , maybe because he dint play the goof like he normally does . Here's some theories for you Madsen : Yeah it's easter weekend , so feel good concoctions are in order , nice and safe for the whole family . Nothing challenging , nothing even remotely disturbing ( safe for yet another Ferrel comedy ) , nothing too violent ( save for the usual pratfalls in family comedies ) , something uplifting with a family message ( the contrived life lesson movie that only h wood can make . The fanbase of cheap horror exploitation flicks is smaller than some people thought , especially me . Slither bombed , and that was def a fanboys dream , but the general public doesn't know what to make of some of these films , if they dint grow up watching it , it's something they will have no interest in . It's obviously a cult thing , the people who know them , love them , the people who don't , are in no rush to see what it's all about . In a way i'm glad about that part , it's like a secret fraternity of film geeks , i don't want the mainstream infecting the integrity of these types of films , let it rot underground where it can be appreciated by the real lover's of cinema . The bo take for Grind will only enhance it's cult status , this type of film is still ours . Trust me , when the other garbage is forgotten about a year from now , we'll still be talking about and obsessing over it . Blades , Robinson's , Are We Done , WH , thse are all family film pander fests , only out to make a quick buck , but quickly forgotten . They give families something to do and get the kids off the parent's back for a little while , but they are garbage . I doubt any kid watching these jokes now ( some of the parents also , if they are still alive , although paying to see some of these films may do them in ) , will 20 years from now talk about them ( if they even remember them ) like people will about Grind , Slither , Silent Hill , Hills have Eyes remake , LOTD etc .. That's the mainstream though , it's safe , predictable , comforting . Some of the real horror films aren't , they challenge you ( it's not a pretty place filled with rainbows , it's brutal and uncompromising ) , unsettle , they don't pander to the youngins or their parents . Qt and Rodriquez may have gotten a little too giddy with this project . Their reverance for the low bud horror from the past , and their past success may have inflated their ego just a bit . They felt just because they love it , the mainstream will accept it . Just hope that Rodriquez doesn't feel the need to start making Spy Kids type films again . Qt , he'll never be cured , and that's a good thing . I hope tis doesn't influence the films they make in the future , because Grind really does look like a fanboy's dream , and i hope they turn a profit when all is said and done , because i want to see more collaborations and offerings like this with other directors jumping in , like Aja and Roth or something . In the end , i say , with some exceptions , fekk family films , they reek , bring on some more Grind and cheap exploitation , they have everything a growing boy needs . |
