It's a pretty phenomenal film. The first time I kind of breezed through, and when everything tied together at the end, I felt like an anvil had been dropped on my head, and I didn't think much of it. But after knowing the twists and turns and being able to analyze the film from a knowing perspective, you get to see how complex the film really is. The screenplay is nearly perfect in my eyes, it's structured so absolutely perfectly, and whether intentional or not, reflects so perfectly on the structure of magic the film itself presents. Three acts, each resembling each stage of a magic trick. And it's not just that, I thought that Wally Pfister's work in Nolan's previous films was top notch, but only hear does he truly bring himself to the status of master, on the level of Deakins or Hall in my opinion. The production design is pretty perfect as well. Hugh Jackman has never been better and Christian Bale has rarely been better. Why this film was not treated better by film fans and at the Oscars is beyond me. This is Christopher Nolan's best film. |
