I didn't think that through. Althought while Bell might regain his faith, the audience would still know that it was just a random freak accident. I don't think it would be enough to make us think that there is justice in this film. Maybe ironic, random and chaotic justice at best. But the film feels more consistent if Bell shares the same view that the audience shares.
