Forum: JoBlo | | I think i know why some people feel heartbroken and disillusioned over certain celebrities death's , especially when they pass at a young age . Some people think they know a person because they have seen them on a big screen or on their television . They may even identify with them , begin to have fantasies that they are them , can be like them , or even have some sort of relationship with them . They identify with this person so closely , that whatever happens to that object of desire or admiration , affects them on a personal level . They see these people as somewhat immortal , fantastical , they have an exaggerated view of them , they are more than human to these fans or admirers . When someone such as ledger dies at such a young age , the reality of , not only the celebrities mortality , but their own , imposes it's will , and the fantasy world is exposed for what it is , fleeting and superficial . The comfort zone of thinking celebrities live perfect lives because they are famous and seemingly have it " all " comes into conflict with the reality that they were just as vulnerable to emotion and distress as we are . I think some of these young actors escape into their work , and never face what is destroying them . They may not feel themselves unless they are acting like someone else . By doing this , they can avoid who they really are and create an emotional shield that " protects " them from their real or perceived deficiencies . I'm not questioning if the people that are grieving over Ledger are genuine , but i do understand why they are . Even the grieving over a celebrity can be used as comfort . It makes people feel as though they care about someone or something larger than themselves . It's also a communal experience , knowing that others , that you have never met , much like the celebrity they are grieving over , are sharing the same feelings . Makes people feel as though they are involved , a part of a larger compassionate consciousness . |
