If I come across the book first, I'll read the book. Same thing goes for if I come across the movie first. I do find, however, that if I read the book first, I always end up getting at least a little disappointed with the movie because it is almost impossible for a movie to be as detailed as a book. They end up leaving stuff out, and inevitably some if it ends up being stuff I liked. If I had saw the movie first, I'd be subjected to the material with a fresh mind and if I liked it, I could read the book to expand on it. I remember I read the book "Shogun" and loved it. It was possibly my favorite book I had ever read at the time. I liked it so much that my mom bought me the series boxset. I watched it and was a little disappointed because even though it was a series, it didn't fully capture the essence of the book that I had built up in my mind. I'm not sure I would have felt that if I watched the series first and then read the book. |
