This time from CNN Forum: JoBlo | | I love the Oscars and watch them every year. The Oscars have introduced me to such beautiful films as Shawshank Redemption, Life is Beautiful, American Beauty, Pan's Labrynth and the list goes on and on. Without the Academy Awards I wouldn't know about a lot of these films and I love them for it. Truth be told I can be disgruntled by the awards as I wish they wouldn't be so narrow minded. There was a time when Star Wars and Raiders of the Lost Ark were academy nominated best pictures, nowdays its really hard to find a film outside the drama genre that gets nominated. Sure one gets past every now and then like Lord of the Rings but it is so rare. I would like to see movies that are considered tentpole summer blockbusters have a shot at best picture too. Bourne Ultimatum was a fine film should it be considered, yes. Will it, no. And comedies, comedies are scarce when it comes to the Oscars. At least the Globes has a category for them. I love the Oscars and can't wait tell this years broadcast but I could gripe about it as well, hell thats half the fun. |
