Topic: Star Wars ruined new Science Fiction Forum: Film Hobbit
CSI fans do not get as obsessed with CSI as Star Wars fans got obsessed with Star Wars. CSI fans weren't running around in character costumes. Shows like CSI's are not powered by fandoms. There aren't CSI fangroups and such. They're mainstream, they just get casual viewer, mainstream ratings. That's their bread and butter. Science fiction, what gets made is, more often than not powered by the amount of fan support it has. Example: The SERENITY movie was made based purely on the amount of fan support there was out there for FIREFLY. The studio saw how much fan support there was for FIREFLY and decided to try a movie. Another Example: Star Trek became what it is ENTIRELY because of fan support. Fans kept it on the air and fans turned it into a mega-franchise which eventually became a part of the mainstream.
