Like I said before, Tim Burton made a Tim Burton movie first, a Joker movie second and a Batman movie third. Fact. I dont understand the Burton bashing, I just dont get it. They are both drastically different takes on the same character. Drastically different directors giving their bat films their own personal touch. Burtons film has many merits. Number one, it showed that comic book movies could be darker, more adult oriented. And that they could be taken seriously as money makers. Only one other series of films had done that in the past. Donners Superman. And those films deluted into a joke after the second one. BAtman brought back that big budget, dark, adult fantasy element to the mix that hadnt been seen before in films. He did for films, what Miller did for comics with The Dark Knight Returns. On top of that, Burtons Batman is one of the highest grossing films EVER to hit the silver screen. Burtons film gave birth to a franchise that is still going strong to this very day. Nolans film has its own merits. It brought a level of realism to the franchise. This came as a direct contrast to Schumachers ultra campy bat flicks, which by the way, completely killed the franchise. Nolan just went in an opposite direction then Schumacher, searching to erase and correct his mistakes. Nolans film jumpstarted the series, brought it back to life so to speak. They both have their merits, they both did great at the box office (well, Burtons made a heck of a lot more money) and they are both exceptionally well made films in their own right. They are just different styles. Different directors. Of course Tim Burton "made a Tim Burton movie" as you say, its his fucking movie man! But in his defense I will say that he made a damn good Batman movie. He kept the core of who Batman is, taking a cue from Millers Dark Knight Returns, Burton made Bats dark, brooding, menacing, intimidating. Changing peoples perception of Batman made by the popular TV show. If you ask me, Burton took Batman very damn seriously. He made him cool again, as opposed to the campy joke the TV show had turned him into. Burton actually saved Batman from its TV past and brought him out into the light for the whole freaking world to notice. And notice they did judging by the box office numbers. So all this Burton bashing, all this bashing of the excellent 1989 classic, is really uncalled for. I dont understand the need to bash on one and glorify the other when they both brought their own greatness to the franchise. But hey, I find it funny, no one bashes on Schumachers films. Now theres two Bat films that should be bashed upon on a constant basis, NOT Burtons gothic classics. |
