Take an ordinary family this could happen to. The likelihood of well mannered punks going to town on one's own family without a purpose for money, revenge or anything else (as cliche as some of these may be)? Unlikely. Everyone has a purpose for something (in the movies and in real life). Am I alone here? This whole movie seemed like a torture simulation and nothing more. bleak describes it best for me. *SPOILERS* was it absolutely necessary to have a rewind scene too? did that actually add anything to the storytelling? i think they could have cut that out and executed the ending the way they did. It seemed ridiculous for the killer to go flying in the air, hitting against the wall anyways (even after point blank with the shotgun). *END SPOILERS* I disagree about the comments you made about the killer's background because evil is more terrifying when you can't explain it. That's why Hannibal Rising never should've been made and is also partly why the character of the Joker, in the upcoming Dark Knight, will be so effective. My problem is that this film shits on the audience because we wanted to see it in the first place. I'd like to say to Mr. Haneke that I am able to differentiate between fantasy and reality and don't need a lesson on violence and morals. He deliberately mocks and alienates the audience, and I don't see how that makes for good entertainment. I can't just like a movie because it's unique, it has to have something more to it. If you're watching a movie featuring an ultimate evil or psychopathic force, you want there to be a force of good to counter it. In this case the force of good is the family, but even from the get go they're never given a chance. It's endless torture, that's all the film is. It was made with a completely unjustified nihilistic perspective. |
