For me personally , i don't want to start any " they didn't get it " posts like i have in the past , or start any more squabbling . I want to enjoy discussing SR , and that's all . One thing you haven't done yet Max is articulate what you enjoyed about specific scenes , allright , you have to a certain extent , but what scenes genuinely made you sit up and take notice . Specific scenes? Hm...well, I like to think of the opening 15 minutes as one very long scene, and the whole thing is just perfect. I believe I mentioned once before how that opening sequence actually plays like its own self-contained narrative with its own emotional punch - the Wachowskis build up the anticipation for Speed to break his brother's record, and BAM! He lifts his foot off the gas at the last second. The way in which they build up the emotional investment in Speed's relationship with his brother in the flashbacks pays off in an awesome way in the present day narrative. Another thing that really sticks out in my mind is the recurring motif of the father and son. We see Rex telling Speed he has to leave and that one day he will understand, and we see his altercation with Pops who tells his son that the family's door will forever be closed to him. At the end of the second act, we see Speed go through the same thing Rex did. He tells Spritle he has to leave and that some day he'll understand, and we see him encounter Pops in the same way that Rex did. Reliving his life's biggest mistake, and given the opportunity to not do it a second time, Pops tells Speed that he should do what he feels he must...and that the door is always open. Of course, every single action scene in the film was expertly crafted and visually stunning, so there's not a whole lot I can do to isolate particular action scenes since they were all so awesome. Quote: I already mentioned one in particular , it really caught me by surprise , and it was exhilarating to watch the first time . It's when Racer X attempted to rescue a fellow kidnapped racer . It was akin to a psychedelic version of Batman ( people have to see it to understand what i mean ) . Racer flew in like a bat out hell , like he was a ghost appearing out of nowhere . It was utterly brilliant , the entire sequence , and there was a bit of dark humor to enhance the proceedings also ( love the fish tank scene ) . Haha...yeah, I remember loving the fish tank gag Classic Saturday morning villainy! Quote: The look of Racer X's car speeding down the roadway is a benchmark moment , it's all kinds of amazing . There's so many more iconic set pieces to be found though , and there's so much going on that multiple viewings are in order . Pretty much every single frame in the film has something to offer , but anything dealing with the cars is terrific . You can get a sense of otherworldly speed , and i know some people mentioned it before , but the effects are so masterful , that you actually start believing that these cars can do some of these maneuvers for real . More than that, you actually enter into that world. I heard someone say he was expecting to open his car door to find rainbows shooting out While you're in there for the full 2+ hours, the film just pulls you deeper and deeper into that world until it feels completely normal...and you step out into the real world in a daze. Everything seems to be moving about 50% slower |
