Yes! I am a huge huge fan of this series. I liked the books, they definitely kept me entertained and were a good read, but the film series is truly something else. It started off pretty weak, just like the books... The introduction to Harry's world was cartoonish, animated, superficial and way too obviously kid-oriented. Director Chris Columbus (and J.K. Rowling in the books as well) continued this trend with the second film. But by the third book, things started to get more interesting. We started to learn more about the past, Harry's parents, the folklore Rowling hinted at in the first two novels that were too preoccupied with being generic to do anything good with it. And at the same time, Warner execs decided to get a truly talented director onboard to deliver something extra with the movie. And Alfonso Cuaron did just that, making the third movie better than the previous two combined, by leaps and bounds; finally someone with a gritty, realistic vision for the world, and not the cartoony colouring-book look of the first two. And then things just got better. The fourth movie is, I feel, the best; it's the most skilfully directed and visually arresting, with director Mike Newell providing just the right combination of fantasy adventure and realistic human drama. The movie worked admirably well, and the final scene with the introduction of Ralph Fiennes' Voldemort is probably the most amazing scene in the series so far. The fifth was also great but it being my least favourite of the books also translated to the movie, which was good but felt too rushed because they tried to cram too much of the book into too short a timeframe. Some sequences seemed to go by too quickly for my taste, although on a whole it was a most satisfying movie as well, just like the previous two. I'm absolutely stoked for the 6th movie coming out this year, I really truly can't wait to see some footage and of course the movie itself. It should be great, and the book was excellent as well. You have to hand it to the producers - these Harry Potter movies have become like the ultimate British actor movies - there has NEVER been a movie (or movie series for that matter) that brings together SO many talented British actors, and never since old Merchant & Ivory stuff has anything remotely like it been seen. It's such a treat to watch all these actors together - Maggie Smith, Alan Rickman, Michael Gambon, Ralph Fiennes, Helena Bonham Carter, Timothy Spall, Jason Isaacs, Gary Oldman, Kenneth Branagh, David Thewlis, Brendan Gleeson, Jim Broadbent... the list goes on and on! My ratings: Sorcerer's Stone - 6/10 Chamber of Secrets - 6/10 Prisoner of Azkaban - 8/10 Goblet of Fire - 8/10 Order of the Phoenix - 7.5/10
