Electric Dreams - I haven't seen this one mentioned yet, so I thought I'd post. Electric Dreams came out in 1984, just as home computers were making inroads into many households and like some other movies with the same theme, it focused on a computer which takes over a person's lifestyle. But while 1983's WarGames was a bit dark and preachy, this movie was more light-hearted. The basic story concerns Miles (Lenny van Dohlen), a nerdy but brilliant architect, who is in love with his downstairs neighbor, a cellist named Madeline (Virginia Madsen). When he buys a home computer, the machine develops a personality and calls itself Edgar, and hearing Madeline playing music one night, falls in love with her as well. This eventually leads to the computer's jealously toward Miles (or Moles, as Edgar calls him as a result of a typo) and Edgar sets out to ruin Miles' life albeit in non-lethal ways. (No deadly machines with blood lust here!). In the end, all things work out well, with Edgar helping Miles get together with Madeline. It's a nice little film, very gentle with some pathos here and there. It also has an 80s soundtrack with artists such as Giorgio Moroder and Philip Oakey, Culture Club and Jeff Lunne (ELO), among others.
