Yeah right. Tarantino continues to be high on any film buffs cool-o-meter. The Kill Bill films have more then won their cult status, its garanteed to be around for ever. And excuse me all to hell, but Kill Bill did wow many a movie audience. His films do wow people, Im sorry but the first time I saw Pulp Fiction, it felt like I dropped a bucket of ice cold water down my back. It was refreshing. Kill Bill blew me away....TWICE with its sword fights, its kung fu, its style and characters. Reservoir Dogs....incredible performances, incredible situations, great dialog. Albeit one that he sort of "invented". And something that actually serves as a pace killer. There doesnt need to be "maturity" in his work. Tarantino movies are very influenced by films that arent necessarily mature. Tarantino is what he is and hes movies are what they are, they dont need for them to fit into your mold of what you want him to be. You want "more mature dialog" go watch some other director. Tarantinos movies come from 70s Kung Fu clicks, ultra violent and graphic Grindhouse cinema thats not necesarilly the most "mature" in terms of dialog, but what Tarantino does (and this is a plus for his movies) he takes this movies which many consider to be low brow entertainment and elevates them, in terms of film techniques and yes, dialog. But they always retain that grindhouse/comic book/kung fu film/gangster film sensibility with bad ass bitches, bad ass dudes, swords, kung fu masters, gangsters, psycho killers, hitmen....you get the drill. The world in which Tarantinos characters exist dont adhere to maturity or reality, they exist within the realm of grindhouse cinema. |
