Good old "Fish out of water" scenario never fails. Dont know how this one fits in the thread since IMDB says it came out in 2000 but the back of my DVD box ( yes i have it on DVD and im not afraid to say it! ) claims it came out in 1999. Anywho here we have... Supernova Wonder how they lured Coppola in to help out with the film. I think the film should have been an Alan Smithee film though, atleast that way the film might have gained some small cult status. Would be interesting to see Walter Hill's original version of the movie. Well, thing is the studio wasnt too happy with the final product that Walter Hill turned in. So what they did was they brought in Francis Ford Coppola to edit a watchable film. He was going to use the pseudonym "Alan Smithee" but since that is pseudonym is so well recognized, they changed it to a lesser known pseudonym "Thomas Lee". Which was the first time ever that a different pseudonym was used other then "Alan Smithee" which is the pseudonym thats always used whenever a director wants to disown a project. Movie was a fiasco! There was one other director before Walter Hill, his name was Jack Sholder but he left a few days after principal photography began. Walter Hill also walked out and then in stepped Francis Ford Coppola to re-edit the film! Its no wonder the film is so bad! I remember seeing it in theaters and being greatly dissapointed. |
