Forum: JoBlo | | First Contact actually restored my faith in the Trek films although it uses the rather worn time travelling plot. I thought it was in many ways a really entertaining film and i still love it today. James Cromwell is pretty funny in it and theres a few good laughs to be had at the expense of the crew too. Good old "Fish out of water" scenario never fails. Dont know how this one fits in the thread since IMDB says it came out in 2000 but the back of my DVD box ( yes i have it on DVD and im not afraid to say it! ) claims it came out in 1999. Anywho here we have... Supernova Directed by Walter Hill. One of the movies that struggled big time, heres what the wiki article has to say about it. Quote: Though Hill was chiefly responsible for principal photography, Jack Sholder directed some re-shoots, and Francis Ford Coppola was called in to supervise re-editing to try to produce a releasable film. It was reported that the studio, extremely unhappy with Walter Hill's completed product, called in Francis Ford Coppola to "re-edit" the film. "Thomas Lee" was chosen as a directorial pseudonym for release, as the name Alan Smithee had become too well-known as a badge of a film being disowned by its makers. Wonder how they lured Coppola in to help out with the film. I think the film should have been an Alan Smithee film though, atleast that way the film might have gained some small cult status. Would be interesting to see Walter Hill's original version of the movie. |
