And who could forget the 90's resurections of the Universal Monsters... BRAM STOKER'S DRACULA You look at everything but the picture itself (Gary Oldman cast as Dracula, Anthony Hopkins cast as Van Helsing, fuckingTOM WAITS, and another adaptation being taken on by Francis Ford Coppola) and you really can't understand how this thing didn't catch on as a modern day masterpeice. But then you watch the film and find yourself submerged in possibly the two worst performances in the history of major motion pictures. Okay, so Winona Ryder is bad but not the worst ever. That was a little exaggerated. But Keanu Reeves?! Absolutely atrocious. I never really got why this guy got so much shit until I saw this film. Wow. How did FFC restrain himself from firing the guy? He's absolutely awful. People complain about Sofia Coppola's performance in Godfather 3, but she's fuckin Robert DeNiro compared to Keeanu in this film. And why Gary Oldman's potrayal of Dracula is so odd and seeming homosexual still puzzles me. 67/100 MARY SHELLY'S FRANKENSTEIN All of these films obviously have very good stories to have survived this long, but I beleive Frankenstein may be one of the best horror stories ever created. And while that may bias my opinion on this film, I truley do find it to be a great watch. The sprawling epic Kenneth Branagh may seem like a monster mash of effects and jump-scares, but it really packs more of a storytelling punch. The film is beautifully shot and well acted all around. The film also has one of the oddest casting decisions of all time, pitting one of the best actors to ever live (Robert DeNiro) in a nearly silent role as Frankenstein's monster. Odd, yet strangely entertaining to see. Much like... 83/100 WOLF Here we have Jack Nicholson as a werewolf. Nuff said. The story is suprisingly pretty well done, with passable performances around; the film is pure popcorn fun. Just seeing Nicholson wake up half naked, with blood oozing out of his mouth is worth checking this film out alone. The wolfman effects are also pretty cool, and with such an epic tale at hand and so many talented people involved you think they'd have gotten a director that would make this thing look like more than a made for tv movie... 74/100
