The sheer anguish on the Japanese captains face is gut-wrenching for me. He fully realises what has transpired and he looks almost like he wants to take his own life. I also love the fadeout at the end. That's what most of the great samurai movies are about . . . the end of tradition, the end of the samurai due to progress. Seven Samurai and Yojimbo deal a lot with these themes. They're also why you see a lot of Western remakes of samurai films, because the themes are so similar (end of the gunfighter, end of the samurai). It's because of these themes I love westerns and samurai flicks.
