Alien (Scott, 1979): Perfectly paced, beautifully designed, and absolutely terrifying. This is cinema at its best. ***** Aliens (Cameron, 1986): Arguably the best sequel ever made. ***** Alien 3 (Fincher, 1992): Not bad. Particularly considering the harsh conditions under which it was created, and the relative inexperience of a new director whose confidence and integrity would lead on to greater things. Still better than most of the shlock coming out of Hollywood today. And a damn sight superior to the shoddy Alien Vs. Predator series. ***** Alien: Resurrection (Jeunet, 1997): A return to Aliens style badass motherfuckery. Though not to quite the same level. And certainly nowhere near as bad as Alien Vs. Predator. Jeunet's unique vision is a worthy addition to the series. ***** |
