| I wonder if it was just too many cooks in the pot, too much at stake, or what, but the flick was all over the place. It felt more like The Mummy than Indiana. I watched Temple of Doom after seeing Indy IV to see if I'm just older and cynical, but I liked Doom way more than IV, even admitting that Doom was the weakest of the original three. There were the same elements of crazy escapes, unlikely leaps and falls, and random comedic bits, but they held together way more than anything in IV. Every scene felt like it was from a different movie, like it was starting over again every time. And there was a lot of building up to things that didn't happen...I kept waiting for the ride to start. And the CGI...you could just FEEL the actors standing next to a green screen. Someone posted earlier about Mac's character, his inconsistency, and the lack of need for him at all--couldn't agree more, his changes of heart were pointless and empty, and all he did was confuse matters. I did buy the Karen Allen return, and thought she had real chemistry with Indy...but that wasn't what I went on opening day to see. The monkeys just felt like we were being sold the accompanying video game. Real disappointment. |
