It holds no weight... M. Night's career is FAR from over, his films suffer from the simple fact that his first 3 movies are Almost classics Richard Roeper had a great thing to say on this past weeks show, he said if you throw any other directors name on The Happening, it would be getting MUCH better reviews... and i agree... people take a comparison route in seeing his flicks rather than experiencing the flicks as themselves! You really are not that smart are you? Yes, studios pass on various projects all the time. However this isn't remotely the same thing. If we are to assume that M Knight is an A List director - then every studio in town but ONE wouldn't pass on the opportunity to work with him. Yet they did and told him to his face that the script was shit. Fox took a chance for the hell of it, but wouldn't finance it - taking less of a risk and not really wanting to put themselves in a position of loss. Try reading some background information on The Happening and it's huge problems during development before jerking off M Night here. People don't want to work with him. $30 million? Big deal. It will be in the toilet next week and will ultimately be another failure for him. It's the legs that ultimately count - not the opening weekend if we are talking about $30 million here. As for Miami Vice - it still doesn't negate the fact that Michael Mann has more power in Hollywood over M Knight despite not really having hits. Why? Respect and Mann isn't insane with ego. Not to mention the fact that he blows M Knight away as a director. |
