Forum: JoBlo | | I am a huge fan of this incredible series (both movies and books); I agree that each installment continues to get better and better (The Order of the Phoenix is my favorite so far.) Daniel Radcliffe has proven himself a great actor and capable of playing the famous teen wizard (Emma Watson and Rupert Grint do justice to the rest of the trio, Ron and Hermione, as well; I picture them now whenever I read the books.) It's also quite amazing that this is the highest grossing film franchise in film history (topping ALL the James Bond films). Christopher Columbus did a decent job with the first two installments and was very faithful to the source material. Alfonso Cuaron brought a darker and visually gorgeous look to the series in Prisoner of Azkaban, while Mike Newell awakened the teen hormones/sexual tension of the series' young actors quite well in Goblet of Fire. I believe Order of the Phoenix director David Yates (who will be directing the final three films, including The Half-Blood Prince which opens towards the end of this year) has brought out the best performances in these young actors and will do the final books proud. However, as a huge fan of the books, I do tend to get a bit disappointed at certain cuts/omissions from the books but I tend to be forgiving of them. These filmakers have been doing the best work that they could've done and the film adaptions are quite faithful to the source material. Certain things need to be cut/replaced for pacing reasons and because they are unnessecary in the film (I wish more people could accept this... I've met diehard book fans who can't stand the movies because of changes... Um, maybe they'd love to sit in a movie theater for 5 hours but I don't.) Favorite scenes: -Harry realizing he's a wizard and the beginning of his adventure -The trio meeting for the first time -Basilisk and Tom Riddle in the Chamber of Secrets -Anything involving Dementors (so creepy...) -The Battle at the Ministry of Magic -The 3 Tasks of the Triwizard Tournament On a side note: I did hear about Robert Knox and that was a tragedy My thoughts/prayers go out to his family. Can't wait for the Half-Blood Prince on November 21st!!! |
