Some of these comments are pretty ignorant considering a lot of people here have never seen the show or much of it, or even the movie, to piece together an intelligent piece of criticism. Anyway, finally saw it. I loved it. Only fans of the series will like it. Strangers or automatic haters? No way. Too much mythos and backstory, and a style of quirky dramedy storytelling that the average television viewer will not understand. SatC, the show, was not realistic at all visually. However, many of the emotions, relationships and ordeals they went through can be quite accessible to almost anyone with a heart or open mind. The fashion stuff is just a sugar coating to something, if scratched a bit, deeper and at times dark for brief periods (you've got to catch the right episodes, many of which were in the last season strangely enough). The movie was perfect for me. I heart the series so much. The girls babble on about trivial things, but isn't that life? Then, there'd be times when things are serious and just not that funny - cancer, miscarriage, cheating, betrayal, heartbreak again and again. The girls make light of it because that's all you can do sometimes - laugh about the pain, learn and move on. That's what I took away from it. The way the friendship of these four ladies is written is just incredible. The most intense and well laid out in any friendship I've seen on TV (something even one of my all-time favorites, Buffy, didn't accomplish in the end). I get touched at how close these characters are, and that's the major appeal for me. The sex, the clothes and the questionable dialogue is just filler, fun and memorable. SPOILERS! STAY AWAY. On to the movie... It answered questions that fans wanted to know since the show ended, and brought up ones we never asked. Carrie overdid her marriage and freaked her fiance out to the point of him not coming (SPOILER: the scene where Carrie him with the flowers in the street and her friends console her is just heartbreaking); Samantha no longer has her own identity; Miranda's marriage is coming apart; and Charlotte is... Charlotte. At first, I thought they screwed Charlotte over with the lack of major storyline, but she really is the glue to the group. Her optimism and faith keeps the girls in check, and her telling off Big at the flower scene was amazing. Her scenes of humor helped alleviate tension and sadness in the film. I've gone through some bad relationships, and could completely relate to how Carrie felt after her canceled wedding. It was pitiful and that's how it should've been shown as. Samantha's story was not typical for her - she was in a 5 year 'ship with Smith, something unheard of for a woman who claims independence and honestly fears falling in love, but had lost who she was. It wasn't about sex either. Sam was lost. She's my favorite of the four because she's THE bestest best friend you could ever ask for. She's blunt and a little abrasive, but how she cared for Carrie post-wedding disaster - superb. Fans of the show definitely want that in a friend. As for Miranda, I was hurt by how hurt she was when Steve confessed. The moment where she decided to take him back was powerful, and I wasn't so angry at Steven anymore. I don't care what the naysayers preach. I loved the movie, and it was all I wanted. The running time was equal to five REALLY GOOD episodes of the series.
