I think there are far more better movies for females. I'm a fan of the show, but there is NO WAY I could ever 1) afford Manolos or Jimmy Choos and 2) ever be able to walk in them. Do I think the stuff looks nice? Some of it. Is it the reason I watch the show? No. Early in the series it wasn't about the clothes but about a lot of the shared experiences of dating, especially in a city with more than its fair amount of freaks, and other experiences that aren't geographically related. And they were funny because they fell under the "sad but true" category. Later on when the show got popular and self-aware, and bf's were tortured into watching tied down and with needles taped to their lower eyelids, the labels got more evident, but the core never changed: shit you gotta deal with when dating in an urban setting. We may not all eat out at Le Bournidan for a date, but we all eat somewhere. We hype up our dates, we deal with friends getting married, getting over exes, the anxiety and the extasy of a potential new relationship, etc. All topics covered on the show and then some. I can't count the number of times I discuss dating and its trappings with friends who watch the show and we all end up finding an instance in the show to quote from in an almost similar experience. Now the fact that I eagerly anticipate the release of TDK read Hellboy comics, and lots of other graphic novels and am STILL a fan of this show should prove that there's something authentic about the show that transcends the individual interests of women, and that there's more to it than LABELS LABELS LABELS. Are you kidding me? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=03vCVejaEd8 Exactly how many Comic Cons have any of us attended and the folk there dressed up as their favorite "fantasy" character? And I mean the hardcore fan, who has recruited working artists to make them look as close to their fave character as possible? And how many people who AREN'T comic fans do you think consider their nostalgia as stupid or a waste of time? I bet the if we tallied up the money most comic geeks spend on their "passion", we'd be up to the amount these superficial women spend on Jimmy Choos, Manolos, Cavalli's etc. The only thing that's evident with these anti-SATC arguments is extreme double-standard Quote: Originally Posted by pg13myass I just personally don't like the show, end of story. if people like it, then so be it. Like another schmoe accurately pointed out, there is no need to throw in some sort of bS sociological, moral reasoning to prop up a BS argument. |
