I actually think that Speed Racer is a much more audience friendly, much more accessible film than Blade Runner. And it's actually very emotionally engaging, whereas one could argue that Blade Runner was a distinctly "cold" movie. It's like the Wachowskis thought "okay, if we're gonna make the visuals this extreme and complex, we should probably at least have a simple story that everyone can follow".
