I said once that if Blade Runner were a woman, I'd marry it. Yes, I'm that insanely into the movie. And yet I have no trouble saying that Speed Racer's visuals (which is what we're talking about here) are on a par with that of Blade Runner. And why not? You might be interested to know that both Fancher and Peoples have confessed that Blade Runner was "narratively light", but that "that wasn't what Blade Runner was about...at least not to Ridley...it was about the film's visual portrayal on screen". That's not to say that Blade Runner's story isn't more thematically rich and dramatically complex than Speed Racer, but it is saying that both Blade Runner and Speed Racer are more about exploring and expanding the visual possibilities of film.
