valid points, let me just reiterate my stance. first off i'm glad we have this thread thats digging into the hype of these things as opposed to just reporting more steelbook news. i find them to be annoying as hell. We have a shit load of threads for these things and most of them are for terrible films. I have a friend who can hold in own in film conversations, hes an avid collector like myself. since the fad of steelbooks came in he's been creaming his pants over films he declared to hate before, films like Hannibal, X3 (which he paid a shitload for), Day After Tomorrow, Dragon Wars, Planet of the Apes (remake), Independence Day, etc. and the worst part is that they are the same dvd's you can get used for 3.99 on ebay or any other used place. He's even dropping cash on the Met's steelbook and the kid hates baseball... I have a problem when guys like that seem to lose what it is that they love about films in the first place. Its not a coincidence that they are releasing their cheaper titles in steelbook form, its easy cash and nobody seems to mind the fact that they are the same if not inferior editions. Hey, i'm a collector too, if i see a steelbook of The Departed or a regular i'd get the steelbook, but i'm not going to collect shitty titles for the sake of the case. If there is a steelbook of a film i like that i don't already own an identical edition of, then i might pick it up. If it makes you guys happy than by all means eat it up. But don't compare it to Criterion, which carries exclusive material, and try to keep it in one official thread.
