That's hardly what I'd call the last word. Everyone had to agree on the story--from Lucas to Ford to Spielberg. As I mentioned before, Lucas had the Haunted Castle story for what turned out to be Last Crusade and Spielberg rejected it. Lucas didn't say it's this or nothing, he just came up with another MacGuffin. In this case, it was turned around and Spielberg had a script/idea he liked but Lucas didn't care for it. People are so adamant about hating George Lucas blindly that they refuse to see that these are Spielberg's movies. He went with George's story ideas, but he added his own flair to everything, inlcuding KOTCS. I'm not saying that Spielberg ever suggested something and Lucas was kind of "eh" about it and thus it didn't end up happening. I'm sure it did. But he didn't say, "You have to shoot against blue screen, you have to have CG gophers and if you're going to make my movie then you have to have Shia Lebouf get hit in the balls by hundreds of CG plants." The only time Lucas stepped out from being a producer, as far as I know, was during Return of the Jedi when he had a director who didn't know about filming a special effects laden film. |
