Most notably, the CGI/digital backgrounds. That, for me, was a big reason it doesn't feel as much like an Indy movie. I wish it was filmed on location, except for interior shots. So it looked like they weren't running on treadmills in front of a greenscreen. I hate to break it to you, KC, but Spielberg hasn't been shy about using CGI since Jurassic Park. Look at A.I. Look at Minority Report. Hell, even Catch Me If You Can had plenty of CGI in it (though for the most part unnoticeable). To say that Lucas must have coaxed Spielberg into using CG is just silly since the man has used ILM for years to create visual effects for him. As far as the storyline goes, Lucas always always ALWAYS brought the story idea to Steven. The Ark, the Stones, the Grail. Hell, Steven straight up shot down Lucas' story of the Haunted Castle for Last Crusade. He was even reluctant to use the Holy Grail until he convinced Lucas that the father/son relationship would be conducive to the grail hunt. As far as this particular story went, Spielberg and Ford both turned down George's terrible initial idea, which was much more sci-fi than the entry we got. In fact, Spielberg went as far to hire his go to guy David Koepp to write the script. It was Koepp's script which excited everybody, not George's original story. Quote: For the rest of the movie... yes, there are other negatives but there's no way you CAN'T see/feel Lucas' hand in this cookie jar. Sure I can. Whenever Lucas has ever produced, he has pretty much stayed out of the way--particularly with the Indy films. To him, these were always Spielberg's movies. The films (all of them) went through several editorial phases. George always got his cut, but it was Spielberg's decision in the end when it came to stuff in the editing room. Don't fool yourself into thinking Georgie boy pulled all of the strings. All he did, in any of the films, was get the films financed and come up with the initial stories (and shot a little second unit on Raiders, with permission from Steven). Quote: As for "The Final Word" - sorry no, that's Lucas. Again, no. See above. |
