Sorry, folks, but Spielberg directed the film and David Koepp wrote the script. Anytime you have a problem, it boils down to them--especially Spielberg since he, just like the first three Indys, had the final word on everything. I don't blame Lucas for everything bad in this movie. He's a big part of it, though because he not only approved the script (which, at that point, I think Spielberg and Ford just really really BADLY wanted to do one more Indy movie), but there's evidence all over of Lucas' hand in this. Most notably, the CGI/digital backgrounds. That, for me, was a big reason it doesn't feel as much like an Indy movie. I wish it was filmed on location, except for interior shots. So it looked like they weren't running on treadmills in front of a greenscreen. For the rest of the movie... yes, there are other negatives but there's no way you CAN'T see/feel Lucas' hand in this cookie jar. I'm not going to say this "raped my childhood" or "fuck Lucas!" just because I hated this movie. I went in hoping for a good time, and even if it didn't live up to the other three, I wouldn't have minded that much. As long as it delivered on the most basic of entertainment needs. For me, it didn't even do that. As for "The Final Word" - sorry no, that's Lucas. |
