It's not impossible to believe that between that time as a young man and when we see him in Temple of Doom he becomes somewhat jaded, and then the incidents in Temple of Doom reawaken that in him though. I kind of agree with Stuart on that, that this is what Lucas and Spielberg were going for. That doesn't however preclude the idea that the whole thing was toy driven. But I don't think it's as bad as people make it out to be even if it is. It's not Phantom Menace or even Kingdom of the Crystal Skull bad in that respect. Back then, Lucas still had SOME semblance of dignity.
