It is completely fair to say that based on the trailers and clips released so far, it appears that the two leading performance are bad. That is a legitimate opinion, just as legitimate as saying they appear to give "capable performances." Either way a person is basing it on what they have seen thus far. Neither is right or wrong. Of course it could surprise and end up being good. It's just that all the evidence so far is to the contrary.
